It is Officially Fashion Fiesta week. We are quickly approaching the annual Fashion event we have all been waiting for.  The Fashion show is taking place this Thursday April 3rd. Starting off with the model walk at 4.30pm from GTI to the House Hotel via Shop Street. Fashion Show commences at 7.00pm.  For more details please check out www.gti.ie.

To kick off the week, our annual LIVE window took place at Brown Thomas this evening. Organised by the Fashion Industry Students and modelled by Tamsin Nolan Fashion Retail Practice Student. It was a major success. Thank you to all the generous people who have donated at our bucket collection today. All proceeds go to Cancer Care West.

We hope you enjoyed our LIVE window, as much as we enjoyed being involved. We look forward to seeing you at our Fashion Show and to showcase all our students creative work.

Thank you for reading.

As  part of my Design Skills module, I have been asked to choose a retail outlet  and create an effective window display.  For this specific assignment, I have chosen Urban Outfitters as my chosen retail store to design for.

I conducted a concise customer profile, I chose an appropriate theme for the specific retail store and I created a visual mood board. From my research, I used my resources to accumulate the props needed. As a result; this is what I came up with.

As you may know, Urban Outfitters is a distinctive brand. Which focuses on uniqueness. The brand  offers an eclectic mix of merchandise. From my knowledge, I tried to incorporate simplicity but with a hint of creativity.

I hope you enjoyed my post.

Spring is always a great time to add a pop of colour to your dark winter wardrobe. Yes, we still need to keep some of the winter woolies out because we do live in Ireland but who’s to say that it has to be the same old clothes we’ve been wearing all season?

I’ve been browsing online lately and the pastel options will be the end of me! There are some gorgeous pieces and I am also a sucker for boots. So here are my top 5 February wish list items.

1. Textured mint coat from Topshop // 2. The Fault in Our Stars (available in all book stores) // 3. Baby pink Kimono from River Island // 4. Initial “S” bangle from Alex and Ani // 5. Plated heeled boots from boohoo.com

Thanks for reading!

Much Love,
Shannon Barry.

‘Sweet Treats’ By Sinead Healy

As part of our styling module we our first assignment involved doing our own photshoots based on a theme we liked. After researching some images I decided that I would  do a candy land theme.

I wanted it to be fun, bright with lots of color and have a really “happy” feel about it. I used lots of penney sweets candy canes and lolly pops.

The photo was taken by my classmate Robin McGonigle.

The dress I’m wearing is from Topshop and was originally priced at 70 euro but I purchased it onsale for 30 euro during the summer sales, floral headband is from Penneys.

Make-up was applied by myself, I’m wearing Loreal no.102 Light Nude foundation, Lipstick Tantrum by  Rimmel , Benefit Coralista Blush and Max Factor mascara

Street Style created by Shannon Barry

As a working girl and full time student, I always like to be comfortable but still remain true to my girly sense of style. I love dresses, skirts, frills and everything like that. At the moment, my go to wardrobe piece for college is a smock dress. I have three and they are so easy to wear and involve minimal effort or planning.

My most recent purchase is this floral high necked style dress from boohoo.com. It adds a pop of colour to my wardrobe and it’s great for Spring/Summer. It’s warm, comfortable, easy to change out of (which is great for me when changing into my work uniform) and can be styled for both formal and casual occasions. And guess what? This one retails at 26 euro.

Unfortunately I had to take the pictures inside as the weather was being extremely uncooperative. This time, I wore it with studded boots that I also got from boohoo.com to add a bit of glamour!

Belle of the Ball created by Sinead Healy

With the season of University Balls upon us like the recent Commerce and Arts ball in NUIG, I decided to do a post on some of the best dresses to ensure you are  the belle of the ball!

The glitz, glam and sheer panic that can ensue in the preparation for an event like a ball can have you dreading the thoughts of dress hunting fear not the modern world that we live in nowadays has allowed for us to have the accessibility of all our needs  and wants be catered for through the brilliant medium of online shopping! You may be involved in organising the ball or very busy with college work and searching from shop to shop may not be an option for you. So thank God for some online saviours!

ASOS is always a reliable and variable pitstop for online browsing as trawling through rails upon rails can be a stressful and futile task on the quest for your dream dress, offering you a plethora of labels, colours and designs at the click of a button and in the comfort of your own home!

Nasty Gal is  a new little gem that I have recently happened to come upon. An American online vintage website that offers shipping and delivery to Ireland is the perfect place to  find stand out items of clothing and  source your  ideal gown for the ball.

College Catch Up created by Shannon Barry

Like all school and college students, we each have a favorite subject. I’m studying Advanced Fashion Industry Practice and this year, my favorite module has got to be the Illustration techniques and graphics class. Now, I know how to use a computer and all but when it came to photo shop and editing, I was clueless.

I feel like this is the module that I have learned the most in and I always look forward to the classes. My portfolio for the module is coming along nicely and today, I thought I would share some of my favorite pieces with you!

Street Style created by Maryellen Ní Churnáin

Usually, my everyday choice of clothing would consist of stylish yet practical outfits,  especially for college life. I like to wear high street brands but have a real lust for investment designer pieces.

I took a quick shot on Buttermilk Lane, just off Shop St here in Galway of my typical wardrobe attire for everyday wear and my busy college life.

Really hope you like it, please feel free to comment on my posts and if you have any style queries do not hesitate to get in touch!

Yours ever so stylishly,
